"Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC) are foundational to the counseling practice, emphasizing self-awareness, cultural humility, advocacy, and social justice. As a Black woman and mental health professional, these competencies hold profound personal and professional significance. They underscore the importance of continuous self-reflection, cultural humility, and active advocacy in my work.

My lived experience and professional perspective provide insight into the systemic barriers that marginalized communities face in accessing quality mental health and addiction services. MSJCC guide my commitment to dismantling these barriers, addressing biases—both personal and systemic—and ensuring that my work is firmly rooted in equity and justice.

In my professional practice, these competencies shape my approach to client care, fostering cultural responsiveness and deep attunement to clients' diverse experiences and needs. They reinforce my responsibility to create safe, affirming spaces for marginalized individuals, advocate for systemic change, and address disparities in mental health access. By embodying the principles of MSJCC, I strive to promote healing, equity, and justice within both individual and systemic contexts."
